Using Facebook’s Friend Lists

One more. Just one more post about the new Facebook changes, and then I’ll give it a rest for while, I promise.

One thing I love about Google+ is how easy they make it for you to thematically link your friends. I have circles on G+ for ‘Friends,’ ‘Tweeps’ (folks I have met via FB or Twitter, but not yet IRL), and ‘Biz.’ What I love about circles is that I can literally drag and drop the folks I’m following into categories, and then share certain information with the appropriate audience.

Facebook has had a Lists feature built in for a long time, and I’ve been using it for a while. I classify each new friend request and place that new friend on a list. If it’s someone I don’t know very well, they go onto an “acquaintance” list, and I have my privacy set so that they don’t see as much information as people who are my close friends.

With Facebook’s latest major update, they have made some changes to the list feature. They still don’t make Facebook’s lists as easy to use as G+, but we can’t have everything, now, can we?

Here’s a video I made for you that gives you a tour of the List feature, shows you how to make your own, and how to manage them.
