Okay, so I’ve been a little ranty lately about illegal Facebook contests. On tuesday, I talked about what was, and what was not, legal in terms of running contests on your FB Biz page.
One thing you need to do is to use a third-party app to run your contest. Today, I show you how to do that.
I use an application called ShortStack. They are a freemium software, which means you can use the program for a limited amount for free, but you need to pay extra for bells and whistles. It’s really great. Get an account and play around with it.

Once you’ve finished creating your contest tab in ShortStack and you’ve installed it on your page, you’ll want to do a few last things to make sure your contest gets properly marketed:
- Make sure your app or tab lives above the fold in your app section. This is the section just to the right of your profile pic and About info. If you have more than four apps installed, chances are, your new app will go “below the fold,” meaning, fans will have to pull the arrow down to see it. You don’t want that. In order to put your app above the fold, hover over your tab icon, and a little pencil icon will appear in the upper, right-hand corner. You can then swap your app with one that is in the top row.
- Next, create a status update and link to your new app, letting everyone know that you have a new contest running. You’ll want to do this several times over the run of the contest.
