Creating a custom Twitter Background

A few weeks back, I promised you this, so here it is!

To create your own custom Twitter Background, you’ll need access to some kind of digital photo-manipulation program. If you don’t have Photoshop, you can use Gimp for Mac or Paint.net for PC, both free downloads.

1. Create a new image. The size of the image should be 972 (W)  x 578 (H) pixels. Choose a background colour in keeping with your branding.

2. Decide whether you want to use the left margin or the right margin. Most people use the left. Block off 200 pixels on the margin, with a small border from the edge of say, 5-10 pixels. Make this 200-pixel-wide block a different colour than your background colour.

3. Inside this block, put a photo of yourself, as well as all of your contact information. Remember, this cannot hyperlink, so you have to write out full URLs.

4. Save your work.

Here’s a screen capture that shows you  how to upload your new Twitter background:

Note: depending on what colour you choose for your background, you may need to change your font colour settings so that everyone can read your tweets.

Have fun! Be creative!
