Repurposing Your Content for Social Media [Infographic]

I just got home from Seattle, where I had the pleasure of presenting at the International Food Blogger’s Conference held last weekend.

The name of our workshop was What To Do After You Hit Publish. It was a workshop about social sharing to drive traffic to your blog. You can see the PPT and resources from that presentation here.

Here’s the thing: it’s no longer acceptable to get Hootsuite or Tweetdeck or Buffer and write one status update and send it off to all of your social media. Each of the platforms has a different language, etiquette, and character limitation. Beyond that, honestly, it makes you look lazy, and like you don’t know what you’re doing.

Instead, when you’re socially sharing your blog posts, you need to be repurposing your content for social media differently for each social media you share it to.

For example, with Instagram and Twitter, you can try @ mentioning people in your update, and you can also use hashtags. On Facebook, you can tag people or businesses if appropriate. In LInkedIn and G+, you can also + people or businesses. You just have to do all of them in a slightly different way.

Yes, it will take you an additional 30 seconds, but once you develop a system, it goes pretty fast! And the results in the long run will be worth it.
