Happy New Year! Celebrate! Appreciate!

Happy New Year! Welcome 2010!

Over the last week or so, I’ve noticed a bit of a trend on people’s Facebook status updates and Tweets. Seems like 2009 is a year many people would rather forget. The effects of a global recession, and closer to home, severe cuts to arts funding sent a lot of folks reeling.

For me, 2009 was a good year (that’s me–always the rebel!). 2007 and 2008 were the most challenging and difficult years of my life, so having come through that, 2009 was a welcome releif.

Whether 2009 was great or lousy for you, I challenge you to do things:

1. Look back over the year and add up your accomplishments and wins. Write them down. And give yourself a pat on the back. In other words, appreciate yourself.

2. Appreciate others. Did someone do something for you this year that made your life or business easier? It could have been something small, like offering to babysit, or it could have been something large, like a big contract. Send that person an email, write on their wall on Facebook, or call them and tell them thanks and how much you appreciate what they did.

Wishing you all the best in 2010!
