Win Two Tickets to Social Media Unplugged–July 7!

I would love to attend this myself, but July 7 is my son’s 9th birthday, so I will be busy celebrating with him and hosting a mob of kids at Hillcrest Pool. Pray for me.

However, my son’s birthday is your opportunity! Because I can’t go, the nice folks at Social Media Unplugged and SFU said I could give my tickets away to y’all.

It’s a really great lineup of speakers, including my colleague from BCIT, Lindsay Smith (@techlinz) and Jenn Lowther (@jennmae) of Indaba Digital, whom I met last weekend at #NV12.

Here’s the official blurb:

Third International Case-Study Based Conference on
Social Media & Mobile Marketing returns to Vancouver on July 7, 2012

Social Media + Mobile Marketing Unplugged (SM Unplugged) conference is back and happening on July 7, 2012 at the SFU Segal Graduate School of Business in Downtown Vancouver.

Event website: http://www.smunplugged.com/vancouver

Last year’s SM Unplugged conferences were sold out events in both Vancouver and Calgary. The Vancouver conference drew 350 attendees coming from across Canada and as far as the UK to pack the SFU Woodward’s Theater.

THE BIG IDEA: As Albert Einstein said, “Learning by example isn’t the best way to learn, it’s the only way to learn. ” At SM Unplugged, attendees learn real world marketing strategy applications through winning case studies from top social media & mobile marketing practitioners.

This year, attendees will, once again, hear from rockstar marketers, in the social media and mobile marketing space, who have worked with organizations from local enterprises to international and Fortune 500 companies.  Expect topics on social media strategy implementation, engagement, brand building, non-profit strategies, mobile marketing strategies, mobile and gamification user engagement, marketing through mobile apps and more.

  1. My favourite Social Media marketing tip is to learn how to schedule tweets, but to also keep track of what you’ve scheduled so that you don’t experience what Live Nation did this past weekend following the collapse of the stage for the Radiohead Concert.

  2. Great surprise, Rebecca!

My favorite social media marketing tip is “connect and engage” – be personal, think about others first, and, of course, always create value for people.

    My twitter handle is @Ekat_Ra!

Rebecca, we were there last year and loved it. Our favourite social media marketing tip is integration. Moving people between platforms to expose them to the entire breadth of the brand. The more you can direct and redirect your clients to different mediums and platforms, the better chance you have of finding one that speaks in a voice that they resonate with.

  4. Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for holding such a great contest!

My favourite social media marketing tip would be to have a weekly social media schedule! It allows you to maintain a fun and engaging presence on social networks at all times by scheduling posts beforehand (ie through Hootsuite to link all your accounts, through Pinerly for Pinterest, or using Facebook’s new feature). For certain businesses, this also lets you set up a weekly calendar of events – ie. Tip Tuesdays, Product Spotlight Wednesday, Special Promotions or Giveaways on Friday, etc.

  5. Hi Rebecca:

    Thanks for holding this contest!

My favourite social media marketing tip would be to connect, engage, provide value and thank people who have “liked” you.

  6. Don’t run contests through Facebook! You just cannot run a competition that allows people to enter just by ‘liking’ the page, a post, status message, link, picture or video! You have to use a third party app, or direct the user elsewhere to enter your contest. If they catch you, they can delete your page without notice. You definitely don’t want that to happen!
