How to Not be Boring on Social Media

Last week, my friend Vicki was writing her weekly column for the newspaper in the town where she lives. She was stumped about what to write, so she put it out to her FB friends.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when people are boring on social media.

Now, I get it. My ‘boring’ might be your cup of tea, different people have different tastes and interests, right? Yes, agreed… BUT.

I have people I follow who sometimes talk about mundane stuff, but they do it in such a way that is interesting and engaging, and that, my friends is what makes all the difference.

Here’s what it comes down to: social media can’t be all about you.

I like dating analogies.

Imagine you go out on a first date with someone. From the moment you meet, that person does nothing but talk about themselves; their hobbies, interests, what they are eating or drinking. They never once ask you a question about yourself or allow you to talk.

Are you going on a second date with that person? Ummmm NOPE.

Boring! Super boring!

So don’t be like that on social media. Ask questions, try to create engagement and conversation on your feeds.

What other things are boring on social media? Vaguebooking, overt attention-seeking, and rants.

You can read the whole article here.

Now, get out there–and today, kids? Strive to be not boring.
